How to View Shōgun?

To watch this miniseries, you’ll need a Hulu account or a Disney+ account that includes Hulu.

The Hulu and Disney+ bundle starts at $9.99 per month, and there is currently a promotional deal for the ad-supported bundle.

Release Dates for Shōgun Episodes

The Shōgun miniseries has a total of 10 episodes. New episodes were released on Hulu and FX every Tuesday from February 27.

What Shōgun is About?

Based on James Clavell’s 1975 historical novel, Shōgun is inspired by real political events in Japan during the year 1600.

The series explores the events that led to the formation of the Tokugawa Shōgunate, an isolationist government that lasted over 250 years.

The delicate peace maintained through rituals and bureaucracy is at risk of breaking, potentially leading the nation into a new period of violent conquests.

Shōgun: The Cast 

In our review, we noted that the samurai miniseries prioritizes character development over action, which is one of the reasons it’s considered a masterpiece.

The series features a highly skilled cast performing in both Japanese and English. They narrate a captivating tale of faith, sacrifice, and ambition.

Creators Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo have depicted feudal Japan with stunning visuals, brutality, and complexity, steering clear of flashy effects to keep the spotlight on strong writing and character depth.

What About a Second Shogun Season?

Sadly, there won’t be a second season of Shōgun. The story has been fully told, with no more material left from the original book.

Although real historical events continued after the book, the show’s creators have chosen not to pursue a second season.
